2K Games has decided to dedicate a three-part Courtside Report series to the next-gen version of NBA 2K 21. A few days ago, we covered the first part of the series and discovered how the gameplay would change on next-gen consoles regarding shooting, dribbling, and passing. The development teams have worked on the players’ movements, to give them a more realistic feel. Moving your players with or without the ball will give you a feeling of satisfaction never reached before in an NBA 2K game. The dribble movement will completely change with the reintroduction of signature moves. The power of the next-gen consoles will allow for better visual feedback as well as a better effect on the gameplay. The movement enhancement will also affect defense and off-ball movement. The transition between different movement phases will be more fluid while AI-controlled players will benefit from better pathing. The size of the different players will also have a bigger impact on the gameplay as the new game engine allows for new options. The foot planting animations have been improved to avoid the traditional movement cuts when moving during a match. Another change that you will experience when playing on next-gen is the player’s movement during duels. When facing a defender, the player who has the ball will move according to his opponent’s reactions and vice versa. Their stats will also have a bigger effect when they face each other. The game engine will improve contact between players and other elements of the game like the ball. The effect will show on the ground as well as in the air. PS5 owners will benefit from features specific to the features of the new console. The adaptive triggers will transmit the sensation of fatigue, becoming harder has your player’s stamina decreases.
